I sat down with one of NHRL's more familiar faces and also the competitor who finally took me down when I competed in May - William Marchese. We talked about the anime influence behind his robots and his path towards growing success in these events. He will be seeking to qualify during the June event this weekend. Check it out!

Outside of the Box Ep 114 | Team Pandamonium | NHRL

This was something of a family episode with a crew whose diverse robots have certainly made an impact at NHRL. I sat down with Team Pandamonium to talk about everything from proud dad moments to Ariel's success with Beetlejuice to the always popular Crashfest and what Robert has been able to do with his control bot. We also of course talked about Matt Lantry's Half Life, the aptly named IDKWTFID and the very effective newer bot Tomato Soup.

Outside of the Box Ep 113 | Brian Boxell of Bloodsport & NHRL | BattleBots

It isn't a hot take to say that Brian Boxell is an extremely talented builder who has brought such amazing robots to NHRL such as Eruption and Waddles. He also got to be part of Team Bloodsport this past season at BattleBots World Championship VII. We talked about that Vegas experience, Eruption's retirement, the push forward with Fireball (plus how it got its name!), and so much more. Brian also throws down a challenge to Giant Nut and Golden Dumpster winner Jamison Go.

NHRL’s Team Honeycracked on Outside of the Box (Ep. 112)

I hope this interview will create a "buzz" in anticipation of the June NHRL event as Team Honeycracked plans on bringing a swarm of robots with them. I am particularly excited for the debut of Happy Meal which is a collaborative multibot that we talked about in quite a bit of detail. You should also "bee" ready to hear all about the growingSTEMS program which is a great tool for learning more about robotics.

BattleBots Giant Nut Winner Sawblaze’s Jamison Go on Outside of the Box (Ep. 111)

It is once again time to Slash and Burn with Jamison Go and this time talking about Sawblaze's epic run to the Giant Nut! This Sawblaze fan was so excited to break down some of the most epic matchups including the legendary battle with Minotaur and of course the amazing fight with HUGE that brought them the championship. We also spoke quite a bit about NHRL as Jamo has already qualified with two of his robots for finals and seeks to complete the trifecta with Silent Spring at the June NHRL event.

Maximizer’s Jake Hoffman on Outside of the Box (Ep. 110)

The 12lb division at NHRL is extremely competitive, but Jake Hoffman managed to claim the win at the May event and I talked to him all about it. We talked a lot about the UC Combat Robotics team that he has helped to grow as well as his prior bot Doomba (no relation to the BattleBot) and what he's got in the works for the future.

NHRL’s Team Defective on Outside of the Box (Ep. 109)

It's time for another NHRL team interview - this time with Team Defective. They have some of the top bots at their respective weight classes including Pramheda, Yob Gnol and Voxel. Such a great group and an interesting discussion!

Team Shreddit Takeover on Outside of the Box (Ep. 108)

Whether you know them from BattleBots, NHRL or both - Team Shreddit has incredible energy and a love for combat robotics. I talked to Evan, Alex, Angel, Brandon, Alicia, Gennadiy, Mike and Michael about the 250lb Shreddit Bro as well as all of the team's amazing robots, some of which will be participating in the June NHRL event. A good time was had on this one!

BattleBots’ Match Steward Mike Jeffries on Outside of the Box (Ep. 107)

The position of Match Steward was both a new and welcome one for World Championship VII and I talked to the man himself - Mike Jeffries all about it. We talked about his background leading up to this role, discussed a couple of the appeals as well as what an appeal might have looked like for the very close finals match and a bit about some of the other things he is doing outside of BattleBots.

Sawblaze’s Aaron Fan on Outside of the Box (Ep. 106)

Sawblaze is the Giant Nut Winner of BattleBots for World Championship VII and I caught up with team member Aaron Fan to talk about their amazing win and all of the things he does as a member of the team. We also talked about his series of Ham-themed robots going back a number of years, several of which have been partnerships with Sawblaze Captain Jamison Go including 2023 NHRL entry Hamshake. So much cool show and tell in this episode!
